Yes, Dave remembers.
And he honors all of those Marines and Docs he served with in Tracks and CAP Delta 3 and those in his last CAP Delta 5.
I called Dave
tonight and we talked for a few hours. For those who don't know .... Dave was to have left Delta 5 a few days before Jan.
3rd 1968 to go home. He was called back to Delta 5 and was lucky to have been one of the Marines to survive the hell that
is described in this story.
CAP Delta 5
lost more Marines than were lost in any CAP to have served from 1965 thru 1971. They also lost their Corpsman HM2 Thomas Moore.
They lost more
PF's (Popular Force) than were lost in any CAP. This story tells that Dave got up and stumbled into the night.
He didn't leave the area. He was busy hunting and killing many of the enemy.
This is a partial list of Delta CAP Marines and
Docs who were KIA prior to being renamed.
CAP Delta 5 losses were on Jan.3rd 1968.
Hand Salute CAP Delta 5 and our Brother Dave Ayers.
