To all my friends   ~ Many of you know me as the “publisher/distributor” of Sonny’s Funnies.

I have an opportunity to offer to each of you.  My Vet Group, http://www.26thMarines.com will be having its reunion in Atlanta Georgia October 3, 4 and 5, 2008.

This year we have a special treat… one of our newest members, Howard Chappel, a 26’er (2/26), stormed the beaches of Iwo Jima in 1945, was wounded and received the Purple Heart in that historic action.

Howard will be our keynote speaker at this year’s banquet, Saturday evening, October 5, 2008 !!

You do not have to be a member to attend, you can come simply as my personal guest (which allows you to get our discount room rate at the hotel see http://www.26thMarines.com for information) and pay only the registration fee of $25.00 and the banquet fee of $40.00… and hear Mr. Chappel tell of his experience on Iwo Jima.

Most of us only get to hear this on the History Channel… this is a rare and golden opportunity.

Don’t miss this opportunity and if you know of any friend, relative or email buddy in or around Atlanta, Ga., forward this to them as well.

Reading the letter below sent to our membership or accessing our website http://www.26thMarines.com will provide additional information as well.

Holler at me if you have any questions, at my email address, or 512-312-4168.

We need a final banquet account by September 30, 2008.

Thanks,

Sonny

Fellow 26’ers and others… This year’s 26th Marine’s annual reunion will be at Atlanta Georgia and is drawing near (see http://www.26thMarines.com ) for additional details.

Our Hotel has changed ownership… but will still be at the same place and address as well as all reservations made will remain intact.

For those who do not have computer access, the hotel contact number for reservations is 404-762-8411 and the hotel website is Ramada Conference Center formally Holiday Inn Airport north is, http://www.hotelplanner.com/Hotels/38577/Reservations-Ramada-Atlanta-Airport-Conference-Center-Atlanta-1380-Virginia-Ave-30344

This year’s 26th Marine reunion dates are, October 3, 4, and 5th.  It appears we will have a good turnout this year.  Find attached a spreadsheet showing all members and payment status.  If you are a member and have not paid your dues, regardless of whether you plan to attend or not, please submit them as soon as possible (note late fees will be shown as a donation)

We have also attached dues, registration and banquet forms for your use.

In addition basic information for the three cities selected for 2009’s reunion (San Diego, Las Vegas, and Seattle) will be voted on at our 2008 Membership meeting in Atlanta Georgia.  Please review these sites on our website http://www.26thMarines.com and be prepared to vote at this year’s annual meeting.

This year we have a special treat… one of our newest members, Howard Chappel, a 26’er (2/26), stormed the beaches of Iwo Jima in 1945, was wounded and received the Purple Heart in that historic action.

Howard will be our keynote speaker at this year’s banquet.

Therefore, this year the registration and banquet is open to all 26’ers, as well as any friends and relatives, to listen to our newest member who again, was with the 26th Marines and stormed the beaches of Iwo Jima… was wounded and received the Purple Heart on Iwo Jima, will be our keynote speaker at this year’s banquet in Atlanta Georgia.

You should consider coming along with the entire family (again, or anyone you know who may be interested).  You/they can come as a guest (in other words don’t have to be a member or need to join) and can attend the banquet or the entire event if desired, and all you would have to pay is the registration fee and banquet fee, again see www.26thMarines.com  to participate in this little nugget of history

Having Harry talk about his experience is something you normally only see on television’s History Channel.  We will have the real deal there; live, in person, sharing his Iwo Jima experience with us… quite a treat!!!  This indeed will be something special.

Any interested person should contact G. H. “Sonny” Hollub, Jr. at ghollub@austin.rr.com or 512-312-4168 to make reservations or to acquire additional details.

We need to have a final attendance count before October 1, 2008.

UPDATE:    We saved the Marine Corps Rememberance Memorial in Pearl Harbor From The National Park Service.

From:    Colonel John R. Bates USMC (ret)     jrbatesusmc@aol.com

UPDATE:   A couple of years ago, I was the Operations Officer for the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center, on the waterfront between the USS ARIZONA and the USS BOWFIN. The Commandant of the Marine Corps was the featured speaker at the dedication of the USS ARIZONA Marine Remembrance, 10 November 2006. The National Park Service, which administers the USS ARIZONA Memorial is renovating all of Halawa Landing, the site of the Marine Remembrance. The Regional Director of the Natl Park Service Western Region, Jon Jarvis, stated on the local TV news that the Marine Remembrance would be removed. I challenged him on that statement and convinced him that would not happen without a fight. I passed the word to (disabled Marine vet) Jack Cunningham (Americans Working Together), who in turn asked his readership to email Jarvis that the entire USMC would make every effort to have him relieved of his duties if he moved that monument. I was copied on many of the emails to him from Marines, their friends and their families that it nearly fried my computer. And...it worked. In order to save his job, Jarvis backed down. The Remembrance now belongs to the USMC and has its' rightful place in direct view of the USS ARIZONA.

Now, Jack Cunningham can use our help himself, as he fights for his due process against a corrupt law firm and state officials who are protecting them.

SECOND REQUEST:

Dear Senator Oroho,

I'm writing this request (again) on behalf of Jack Cunningham, a former active duty Marine and Vietnam veteran.  Although I've never actually met him in person, simply the fact that he is a fellow Marine in need of justice, I offer to help him in any way I can.  As you may know, Marines are like that.  Marines take care of Marines.

Although I probably don't know all of the facts pertaining to his case against the State of New Jersey, I know enough to firmly believe that he should be heard in a public forum.  His charges are serious.  There are claims of abuse of power and cover-up at the highest level of the State government.  When such accusations are made, I believe the leadership has no other option than to investigate.  Until that is done, all that know of him and his charges will assume that there is indeed a cover-up.  Perception is a powerful thing.  Hopefully it won't be counter to the truth, whatever that may be.

If this is allowed to continue to fester, the results will be devastating on all involved.

If this issue is not addressed soon, my only other option is to forward this to every Marine website and public forum I can find.  That option is not a good one for any of us.

Please do the right thing and give Jack his "day in court."

Very Respectfully,   John R. Bates
